Ableton Live Tips #10: DJ / Performance - Creating A Unique Setup (Dorian Concept)
More info - bit.ly In this Ableton Live video tutorial, we'll explore some techniques inspired by two incredible conversations I had this past week. We will look at the creative possibilities of using the Simpler, some portamento, LFO, and delays, and we'll also explore a great technique for crafting 8 bar drum patterns. First up, I had the great pleasure of catching Dorian Concept's insanely inspiring set at Low End Theory last week. Dorian Concept is a Vienna-based producer who has developed his own completely original style of keyboard playing. He's been tearing it up at Festivals around the world since bursting on to everyone's radar with the massive tune "Vertical Output" a few years back. His latest release on Ninja Tune is called Her Tears Taste Like Pears, full of funky, synth driven club heaters. He often sits in live improv style with his friend Flying Lotus when they cross paths internationally, and his series of YouTube videos 'Fooling Around With The MicroKorg, Alesis Micron, etc' are straight jaw droppers. So I had the honor of chatting with him at length at Low End, and I thought I'd share some tidbits from our inspiring conversation. He shared some serious wisdom that would be helpful for any aspiring producer. Turns out he is not classically trained, and he's actually completely self-taught. The great thing about what he has done, is that he has kept it simple and really mastered his instrument, developing his own unique style. With all the tools we have ...

3 Exercise Core Killer - No Crunch Core Workout
3 Exercise Core Killer - No Crunch Core Workout
athleanx.com for MORE CORE WORKOUTS! Most trainers recommend ab workouts to strengthen your core, and do so with nothing but crunches and other core workout staples. The problem is, to effectively train the core you actually don't want to do just crunches. You need to work the stability of the lower back, obliques, hips, glutes and abs in order to completely train the core. Then and only then can you expect to have a foundation of core stability in place that you can work on developing a solid six pack on. Make sense? Well, in order to do that...to develop a set of impressive six pack abs you need to know the difference between ab strength and ab stability. We have already discussed the need for ab stability through plank type exercises, however in order to build ab strength you need to incorporate exercises that require you to overcome the inertia or sticking point of the muscle. Examples of these type of core exercises are Hanging leg raises (for the abs and obliques) Hanging knee raises (slightly easier but still for the abs and obliques) Reverse Crunches on a decline bench (lower abs exercise) Pairing these up with an effective oblique and core stability program allows you to get the best of both worlds. A strong core and a set of six pack abs. All of course providing you're watching what you're eating and keeping your nutrition in check. But that goes without saying at this point. For a complete program that already spells out for you exactly what core exercises you ...

Neck Exercises - Manual Neck Resistance | Neck Strength
Neck Exercises - Manual Neck Resistance | Neck Strength
Brought to you by www.GrapplersProtectYourNeck.com Here's a basic neck training routine you can do without neck training equipment. You can do this neck workout as a warm up, a separate workout, after practice for strength and conditioning or even as a cool down before you leave the gym or practice room (of course your intensity would vary depending on what you're trying to accomplish). If you're a wrestler, submission grappler, Judo player, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter, boxer or mixed martial artist, you have to protect your neck. Here's one basic neck workout you can use to help you develop a strong neck. This routine is also great for a neck warmup before wrestling practice and neck bridging. Basically, this neck exercise routine is like doing 4-way neck exercises using your hands as resistance. Grapplers, wrestlers, BJJers, Judo players and MMA fighers should spend AT LEAST 10 minutes every day working directly on neck health and/or neck strength. As a wrestling coach, I make sure all the athletes I coach know the important of neck training and having a strong neck. Neck training can literally SAVE YOUR LIFE, especially if you compete in dangerous combat sports in which your neck takes a beating (no matter how good or how tough you are). How to Color Correct Portraits and Skin Tones - Lightroom Color Correction Video Tutorial
Full article and exercise files at - www.slrlounge.com Alright guys, welcome to our first tutorial where we are going to start on our little journey of editing and developing in Lightroom. In this Lightroom video tutorial, we are going to focus on techniques to color correct portraits. The main priority when correcting portrait images is really nailing the correct skin tones of your subject. So, we will be teaching you various techniques on adjusting temperature and tint, smoothing highlights and details, and more in order to get our skin tones looking nice and natural. After we correct each image, we are going to save our develop settings for each corrected image to a Snapshot. That way we can constantly refer back to each develop style for our images as we work through this series. Since we are working through 4 examples, we are going to move fairly quick. I want the images corrected, but I am not too worried about getting them 100% perfect as we are going to be revisiting them in future tutorials as we get to touching up and artistic editing videos. So, for now, focus more on the technique, get your images 90% - 95% completed, then move to the next image. Enjoy guys!

The role of leadership in software development
The role of leadership in software development
Google Tech Talks May 6, 2008 ABSTRACT When you look around, there are a lot of leaders recommended for software development. We have the functional manager and the project manager, the scrum master and the black belt, the product owner and the customer-on-site, the technical leader and the architect, the product manager and the chief engineer. Clearly that's too many leaders. So how many leaders should there be, what should they do, what shouldn't they do, and what skills do they need? This will be a presentation and discussion of leadership roles in software development -- what works, what doesn't and why. Speaker: Mary Poppendieck Mary Poppendieck started her career as a process control programmer, moved on to manage the IT department of a manufacturing plant, and then ended up in product development, where she was both a product champion and department manager. Mary considered retirement 1998, but instead found herself managing a government software project where she first encountered the word "waterfall." When Mary compared her experience in successful software and product development to the prevailing opinions about how to manage software projects, she decided the time had come for a new paradigm. She wrote the award-winning book Lean Software Development: An Agile Toolkit in 2003 to explain how the lean principles from manufacturing offer a better approach to software development. Over the past six years, Mary has found retirement elusive as she lectures and ...
